A young man from Washington state is being hailed as a hero after rushing into a burning home to rescue his eight-year-old niece. Twenty-year-old Derrick Byrd suffered severe burns to his face, arms and back when a fire broke out at his home in Aberdeen. His niece, Mercedes, and two nephews, Junior and Rory, were trapped in a room on the second floor. The two boys were able to jump to safety, but Byrd's niece Kayla was too afraid to jump. Byrd ran into the building to save her, and said he would do it again even if he knew about the injuries he would sustain.
