A chemical in breast milk may break down tumors

Never underestimate what breast milk can do. Researchers from the Czech Republic found the milk sugar alpha1H, which is essential to a baby's development, can destroy tumors without harming healthy tissue. They specifically found those with bladder cancer excreted tumor fragments in their urine after just six infusions of alpha1H, and another study showed patients start to pass malignant tissue within two hours of treatment. The researchers hope this could be a "gentler" form of chemotherapy, and drug maker Hamlet Pharma Ltd plans to test if the chemical shrinks bladder tumors and improves patient survival.
