5k Run & Walk Honor to Celebrate Local Hero, Mark Hummeldorf

Friends are pleased to announce the second annual #HonorMark 5K run, walk & kids fun run, scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Hutchinson Island. The purpose of the #HonorMark race and initiative is to carry on a local hero’s legacy of service and sacrifice by giving back to the community he served through charitable donations. This year’s race includes a Virtual Run option – so that Mark’s friends and family all over the world can run to honor his life at the same time.

Mark Edward Hummeldorf served our nation in the armed forces with the Marine Corp for 4 years and as a firefighter/paramedic for Southside Fire and EMS, Savannah Fire Rescue, and Parris Island Fire Rescue. During his time in the Marine Corp, Mark was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery, which he also exemplified daily in his actions as a first responder. Unfortunately, our community lost this hero on November 22, 2017 when Mark was tragically taken from us at the young age of 33; he left behind his beautiful wife and two wonderful children.

The race is supported by Savannah Union Fire Fighters, Service Brewing & Fleet Feet. Runners and walkers of all ages and levels are encouraged to sign up for this celebratory event at: https://runsignup.com/Race/GA/Savannah/honormark2019 The race will start at 8:30 a.m. and registration cost is $35/per adult until October 31st.

“We were so moved at the support of our race last year with over 250 participants, we feel it is our honor to continue to celebrate Mark’s life,” states good friend, fellow firefighter and race director, Tyler Carlson. “This family-friendly event is planned to help lift Angie and her children up.”

All area fire departments, Marines, Veterans, service members, paramedics, runners, walkers, crossfitters and red-blooded Americans are encouraged to participate to #HonorMark5k. If you are interested in sponsoring or volunteering, please email honormark5k@gmail.com.
