How a dog and a branch helped rescue a man who fell through a frozen pond

Thanks to Diesel, a German Shepherd, a man is recovering from hypothermia after he was rescued by two bystanders after he fell into an icy pond in Stoneham.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they found that two men who were in the area had helped the man to safety.

The 22-year-old victim had fallen through the thin ice while he was riding a mountain bike on top of the pond, according to officials. One of the rescuers just happened to be walking with his 5 year old dog when he was alerted to calls from the man for help after he fell into frigid water and ice.

"The dog started barking and I knew there was something going on," Walsh said. "Then I saw the splashing going on in the water and I knew there was somebody in there."
