New Police Academy for Volunteer Police Officers

New Police Academy for Volunteer Police Officers

There are many opportunities for civilians to serve their community as police officers, without quitting their day jobs.

On Friday, April 14 at 10 a.m. the Georgia Public Safety Training Center - Savannah will announce a new parttime police academy for anyone living in the coastal region to become Reserve Police Officers.

This academy will be made available to anyone who GPSTC qualifies to attend two evenings per week and all day Saturday.  This academy will last approximately 6 months. Reserves officers carry the same powers as sworn personnel and must meet all state requirements.

A minimum of 15 qualified candidates are required for this new part-time academy which is projected to begin July 7, 2018.

Anyone interested should contact the Georgia Public Safety Training Center by May 1, 2018 by phone at (912) 644-7766 or by e-mail at hbraswell@gpstc.org.

Many local law enforcement agencies such as the Savannah Police Department and Chatham County Sheriff’s Office have Reserve Police Officer programs which allow volunteer officers to work in a variety of fields including traffic, patrol, special events, etc.
