A Texas elementary school teacher is suing her school district for discrimination based on her sexual orientation after she was suspended and then reassigned for showing has students photos of her future wife in class. Art teacher Stacy Bailey is suing the Mansfield Independent School District and two administrators, but the Dallas-Fort Worth area district denies her claims, saying they've been a, quote, "inclusive, supportive environment for LGBT staff for decades." The district said the fact that Bailey was gay was open and there'd never been a problem, but that changed because of her actions in the classroom, which led some students to express concerns to their parents. The district told NBC News, "The issue at Charlotte Anderson Elementary School is whether Mrs. Bailey has followed district guidelines requiring that controversial subjects be taught in 'an impartial and objective manner.' Teachers shall not use the classroom to transmit personal beliefs regarding political or sectarian issues." Bailey showed her students photos last August of her parents, best friends and "future wife" during a "Get To Know Your Teacher" presentation. A parent complained to the school board and superintendent later that week that Bailey was promoting a, quote, "homosexual agenda" in the classroom. The led to Bailey being put on administrative leave, and then asked for her resignation, which she refused to give. She was reassigned to a high school this month.
