The Savannah Police Department K-9 Unit has been named one of 30 finalists in the Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.– K9 Law Enforcement Sports Utility Vehicle Giveaway. Cpl. Benjamin Ferrero and K-9 Dooly will compete for public votes to win a new Chevy Tahoe SUV, with Police Pursuit Package and additional K-9 unit customizations – a prize worth up to $50,000.
“This contest provides a great opportunity for recognition at a national level,” said Captain David Gay, commander of SPD’s specialized units. “ Our K-9 Unit supports the department’s continuous efforts of reducing crime in Savannah, and winning this vehicle will help further that mission.”
The public is invited to vote once per day for Ferrero and Dooly on the charity’s contest page, www.vik9s.org/suvgiveaway. Public voting runs from 12:00 a.m., October 1 to 11:59 p.m. EST October 31. The K-9 team with the most votes by the end of the contest wins the new Chevy Tahoe SUV. The winner will be announced on the Vested Interest in K9s website and social media sites.

Ferrero. “Having the latest and greatest technology to help protect my partner has always been a top priority of mine. This contest is giving us a chance to upgrade some equipment, and we could not be more thankful.”
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity, located in East Taunton, MA. Their mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States.
The non-profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor and other services for their four-legged K-9 officers. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 3,100 protective vests, in 50 states, through private and corporate donations, at a value of $5.7 million dollars.
