SOME OWNERS DON'T FLUSH SICK GOLDFISH BUT INSTEAD, SEEK SURGERY AND CHEMO

People love their pets, but how far would you go to save a goldfish? Veterinarians at North Carolina State University are delivering life-saving treatment, including cancer treatment and even surgery, to some finned pets. Dr. Greg Lewbart said he doesn’t think twice about doing surgery on goldfish and koi because their owners consider them a part of the family and he wants to do his best to help them. Lewbart said N.C. State handles about 50 fish cases a year, from CAT scans to chemo to operations. HE says owners have spent up to $2,000 on a pet goldfish.
