Dozens of farmers came together to save the harvest of a Washington state neighbor who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Larry Yockey, a 64-year-old fourth-generation farmer, said he usually harvests his wheat crop himself, which accounts for nearly 100 percent of his income. He was diagnosed in February with melanoma, which has spread to his bones and which contributed to a broken hip and broken ribs that reduced the amount of time he can spend working in his fields. After he told neighbors he was worried he wouldn't be able to handle the harvest, dozens of farmers showed up to work his fields last weekend. They completed three weeks' worth of harvesting in about eight hours. Yockey said, "Thank you' really doesn't even do justice here."
