A dog brought back to a New York animal shelter has found her forever family after an outpouring of love on her birthday that brought more than 500 cards from across the country and the world. Brookhaven Animal Shelter volunteer Valerie Sanks decided to throw a 10th birthday party for a pitbull named Truffles, who was returned to the shelter through no fault of her own. Sanks turned to social media to ask for cards for Truffles and organized a birthday party for the dog at a hotel. More than 500 cards came pouring in from 46 U.S. states, Canada, the Cayman Islands, Ireland, England, Poland, New Zealand, Austria, Australia, the United Kingdom and Sweden. More importantly, Truffles was sent to a smaller shelter, where she was adopted in just one week.
