The state of New South Wales in Australia is turning to technology to try to get people to not use their phones while driving, introducing cameras to catch them when they do it in what its government says it a first in the world. There are set to be 45 of the Mobile Phone Detection Camera units put in place across the state by December. Each one actually has two cameras, one that photographs a car's license plate and the other that looks through the windshield and is able to see what drivers are doing with their hands, with artificial intelligence used to exclude drivers who aren't touching their phones. If suspected illegal behavior is seen, a human will look at the photos before the car's owner is fined the equivalent of $232 U.S. dollars.
