HIGH SCHOOL SETS UP LAUNDRY ROOM FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED STUDENTS

Maya High School in Phoenix, Arizona, has converted a closet off the school cafeteria into a laundry room to help out underprivileged students. The laundry room, called The Missing Sock, has a washing machine and dryer and laundry detergent, all at no cost to the kids. Principal John Anderson came up with the idea after realizing that many of the students at the school, 30 percent of whom are homeless, were reluctant to go to school because they didn't have a way to wash their clothes. So they built the laundry room with the help of grants from the Leona Group, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Fiesta Bowl.
