She lit hand sanitizer and threw it at her girlfriend starting a major fire

Destiny Waite is charged with murder, arson and four counts of assault for starting a house fire that killed a man and left dozens homeless after she threw a flaming bottle of hand sanitizer at her girlfriend, police say. She has been charged with murder, arson and assault for allegedly sparking the fire that killed Jerome Kyser, 50, whose body was found in the burned 68-unit apartment complex in Hartford, Connecticut. Hartford Police Lieutenant Paul Cicero said that Waite and her girlfriend were involved in a ‘domestic verbal and physical altercation’ in their apartment when Waite threw a hand sanitizer bottle ‘that was lit on fire’ at her shortly after 1:20am. ‘The burning bottle of sanitizer splashed against the wall and flames began to spread,’ according to an arrest warrant obtained by the Hartford Courant. Kyser’s body was found during a second sweep of the property. His death was classified as a homicide due to smoke inhalation by the medical examiner’s office. Two adults and two children were taken to hospitals in critical condition, but they have since stabilized. Waite was later arrested at her family’s apartment a short time later, although she claimed she had been with her family all night. Her lawyer argued Waite’s girlfriend caused the fire and blamed Waite. She is being held on a $1 million bond following a court appearance.
