MOTHER WHO HAD CORONAVIRUS MEETS HER BABY ONE MONTH AFTER GIVING BIRTH

A Massachusetts mother who became infected with the coronavirus while she was pregnant finally met her new baby 28 days after giving birth. Sarah Chama checked into UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester in late April when she was 26 weeks pregnant after experiencing dizziness. She tested positive for the virus and was put on a ventilator when her condition deteriorated. Chama, who has two other children, gave birth via Caesarean while sedated at 27.5 weeks. Her son Alex was born at two pounds, eight ounces and has been gaining weight in the neonatal intensive care unit. Chama has been recovering from the coronavirus, and is expected to be discharged next week. When she finally was able to meet her son, she told WFXT, "My heart was skipping when I held him. I can't explain the feeling. I don't even know what to say. It's overwhelming."
