Sometimes reporters become the story. Don Ford, a journalist for KPIX in San Francisco, was recently preparing to film a segment about a series of car robberies when he was mugged at gunpoint. The shot was being set up in the Twin Peaks neighborhood when thieves jumped out of a car, one pointing a gun in Ford’s face and demanding his camera. It’s unclear if Ford was alone or if he had a crew with him at the time. Ford was caught on camera with his hands up, and allowed them to take the equipment—he was not harmed. A witness who watched the robbery unfold told KPIX he watched from afar, hoping no one would be shot. Ford later rehashed the ordeal on Twitter. Police have since revealed the camera was recovered, but the thieves have not been caught.
