Elon Musk talks to Twitter employees about free speech

Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter still isn't a done deal, but he held a town hall meeting with the company's employees in which he spoke about topics including free speech. Asked about his position on content moderation, Musk repeated his stance of wanting to loosen restrictions, saying he wants to allow all legal speech, including content that is, quote, "lawful or awful" like extremism or abuse. But he also said Twitter should work to prevent potentially harmful or offensive content from getting amplified. He explained, "There's freedom of speech and freedom of reach. Anyone could just go into the middle of Times Square right now and say anything they want . . . but that doesn't mean that needs to be promoted to millions of people. So I think people should be allowed to say pretty outrageous things that are in the bounds of the law, but that don't get amplified and don't get a ton of reach."
