Meet the cat that won a Guiness World Record as having the loudest purr!

Bella, a 14-year-old cat who lives in Cambridgeshire, England, has been declared by the Guinness World Records book to be the loudest living domestic cat. Guinness experts working with an acoustic engineer clocked Bella’s purr at an ear-shattering 54.59 decibels. Her owner says Bella purrs all day long and especially enjoys drowning out the television in the evenings.

To put this into context, that’s similar to the sound of a kettle boiling and not too far off the sound of your washing machine.

According to her owner, Nicole Spink, Bella’s unique talent comes quite naturally: “She purrs all day long! If there’s food around, or cuddles, she always purrs. “Also when watching TV – she likes to be loud with television. My late husband used to always moan about the sound of her purr blocking the sound of the TV in the evenings.”

Happy cat Bella has purred her way into the record books! The loudest purr by a domestic cat (living) was achieved by Bella Spink and her human Nicole Spink in Huntingdon, UK. Bella's record-breaking purr was recorded and measured by independent specialist sound engineers.
