At a high school graduation ceremony in Newark, Miguel Rodriguez Bermudez received more than a diploma when he was handed a $74,000 teaching contract. He was one of 34 graduates offered jobs in local schools as part of a plan to fight teacher shortages by developing future educators from the community.
