Twiggy The Skiing Squirrel Is The Star Of The State Fair

Twiggy the water-skiing squirrel became the star attraction at the Carolina Classic Fair, drawing large crowds on opening day Friday. The talented performer is scheduled to appear multiple times daily through Sunday when the fair concludes. This Twiggy continues a legacy that began in 1979 when Hurricane David knocked a baby squirrel from its nest in Central Florida. Lou Ann Best and her husband Chuck adopted that first squirrel and trained it to water ski. Best trained eight water-skiing squirrels total before retiring from the act. Chuck Best Jr., her son, now tours the country with the current Twiggy, maintaining the family tradition
