A heartwarming reunion between a dog named Oreo and his owner during the Los Angeles-area wildfires might start to help pets during natural disasters. The Friends of Oreo Act takes its name from the Pomeranian whose emotional reunion with his owner Casey Colvin — captured on video during the Palisades Fire — moved millions of people across the country. Casey was seen sobbing on the side of the road, begging the police to let him get to his dog. Most towns don’t yet have procedures in place to help people locate and recover pets separated during emergencies. This act will do just that…rescue and reunite pets. It would be the first law of its kind in the nation—and hopefully other states will follow.
