Navy Sailor Rescues Man From Burning Car

Police in Schaumburg, Illinois, responded to a car fire on Saturday afternoon on the upper level of a mall parking garage. Officials say the driver had suffered a medical emergency before the vehicle caught fire. Video of the incident shows bystanders stepping in to help pull the driver from the burning car.

One of the people who assisted was Navy sailor William Thompson, who recently completed boot camp. He says his training helped him react quickly, and he broke a car window during the rescue, sustaining a minor injury. Thompson also credits others at the scene for helping pull the driver to safety.

Police say four other vehicles were damaged due to the fire. Emergency crews responded to extinguish the flames and the driver was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
