On Sunday, at the corner of Central and Broadway in Wichita, Kansas, Raul Cervantez gave free haircuts to people experiencing homelessness. Believing that a good haircut can improve self-esteem, he and his friends wanted to give back and help others by offering the service at no cost.
They also brought food and drinks, including multiple pizzas, water, and Gatorade to give away. One customer, Cade, received a free haircut and said it made him feel more confident. “I feel less like a homeless guy with a shaggy beard and more like a guy with a super cool haircut,” he said, adding that it was “amazing” to be treated well despite not having money or a place to live.
Cervantez chats with his customers as he gives them their cut and says the small gesture can help carry them through the day. He plans to continue providing free haircuts every Sunday afternoon, offering kindness and support to those in need.
