LAST ORCA BORN AT SEAWORLD DIES AT THREE MONTHS OLD

The last orca born under SeaWorld's since-ended breeding program died yesterday (July 24th) at its park in San Antonio at just three months old. Veterinarians had been treating the baby killer whale, named Kyara, for an infection. SeaWorld announced the end of its breeding program in March 2016, after years of pressure from animal rights activists and following public backlash over orcas being held in captivity after the release of the 2013 documentary, Blackfish. Kyara had been conceived before the breeding program's end was announced. SeaWorld has 22 orcas left in the U.S.
