Back in February seven-year-old Brock Hardwick was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a high-grade cancer in his brain and spine. He’d been taken to hospital after feeling unwell for two weeks, when an MRI test showed multiple tumors in Brock’s brain and spine. Brock had to undergo brain surgery to remove one of the larger tumors, but unfortunately they came back. He’s now spending his days at Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland, Maine.
One thing is lifting Brock’s spirits while he receives treatment: The knowledge that Halloween is almost here. Brock loves Halloween. He plans to dress up as Hulk this year. So to keep him going, his family came up with a plan: Brocktober, a month-long Halloween celebration just for Brock. As part of that, Brock’s parents put a call-out on Facebook, asking people to send Halloween cards with funny messages for Brock to read. He’s now received nearly 1,000 cards from strangers around the world, along with sweets, toys, Halloween decorations, and drawings.
