Melody Zunker had been hearing a kitten’s desperate meows for days… from a sewer grate in Kansas. She didn’t know how to get her out, so she called 911. Police couldn’t help Melody, so she turned to the next best thing: the public. By posting on social media, she was able to rally strangers together to find the right way to extract the kitten from the muck. The word spread so quickly, a GoFundMe page was even created to help the kitten. One woman who’d heard about it reached out to a friend experienced in animal rescues. That woman, Liz, was willing to dive deep into the sewer in order to help the tiny kitten to a safe and dry environment. Thanks to a little patience, elbow grease, and help from sewer services, the group of rescuers were able to get the kitten — now called Piper — out of the trap
