A huge crack in ground opened suddenly recently in Kenya, where geologists predict the African continent will split some 50 million years in the future. The miles-long crack is more than 50 feet deep and 65 feet across, and it happened so quickly that one resident told Reuters he barely escaped his house before it collapsed. It's believed the crack was caused by heavy rains and seismic activity in the area, however it formed along the East African Rift, where two of the Earth's tectonic plates are moving away from each other. Scientists believe that Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania could eventually split from the rest of Africa along the rift.
