Mrs. Woods is providing the students at Woods Road Elementary School in Hillsborough, New Jersey, with a first-hand view of nature. Mrs. Woods is a duck, and she’s returned to the school for the 10th year in a row to lay her eggs. For the first couple of years, Mrs. Woods made her nest under the stairs leading to a piece of playground equipment. School staff roped the area off to give her privacy. But the sounds of children playing nearby likely caused her to find a better spot. The duck mother found an oasis nestled in the vegetation of the school’s garden, where she has returned year after year to hatch her ducklings.
… Mrs. Woods came back to the school about two weeks ago and laid 13 eggs in an outdoor courtyard, which she can only get out of if she flies.
