American Idol finalists will tour...and the show will return next season

America has voted after another American Idol live coast-to-coast broadcast. During last night’s show, contestants sang Prince songs and songs from the year they were born. While the show was airing, the public voted to help narrow down the Top 7 to the best 5 performers. While the judges – Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan – were able to weigh in on the contestants performances, the elimination was completely decided by the public.

The top five to make it through were Cade Foehner, Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Gabby Barrett, Maddie Poppe and Michael J. Woodard. Catie Turner and Jurnee saw their Idol journeys come to an end. The top five contestants will jet to Nashville and spend the week being mentored by American Idol’s Season 4 champ Carrie Underwood. She’ll also perform on next week’s show.

In other news, tThe long-running singing competition, which was rebooted in 2018 on ABC, will return for another season. The renewal includes deals with current judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie and host Ryan Seacrest. The show’s current season saw its highest viewership since the premiere episode during its first live episode earlier in the week.

Meanwhile, show announced last night that the Top 7 finalists from the current season of Idol, along with special guest Season 8 winner Kris Allen, will be hitting the road later this year. Cade Foehner, Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Catie Turner, Gabby Barrett, Jurnee, Maddie Poppe and Michael J. Woodard will all be joining Kris on the 40+ city tour, which kicks off in July in Redding, California, and wraps up in September in Washington DC. ABC Boy Band winners In Real Life will also be joining the Top 7 on select dates.
