It was Mother's Day on American Idol

Here's how the show surprised the three judges on Mother's Day

American Idol was joined by Carrie Underwood last night, with the Top 5 contestants each performing a song from the American Idol winner herself, as well as joining her on-stage to open the show. In addition, each of the young contestants performed a song dedicated to their mom for Mother’s Day.

Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan helped celebrate and give critiques after each performance.

Once again America’s Vote took place during the show, with two of the Top 5 seeing their American Idol journey come to an end as Cade Foehner and Michael J. Woodard were voted off. Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Gabby Barrett and Maddie Poppe will fight it out for the crown.

When the credits ran, they substituted everyone's mother's name for the actual crew member!
