First lady Melania Trump made a surprise visit to see immigrant children separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border. She asked questions, she took tours. But what lit up social media and got people talking was her jacket.
She wore a $39 jacket from Zara, arguably the least expensive article of clothing she's ever worn. She wore it in weather than was over 85 degrees and humid. But why?
Could it be the message written on the back of the jacket: "I really don't care, do u?"
Many were upset by that thinking she really didn't care and her Texas visit was for optics only. But others felt this was a direct criticism of her husband and his administration.
Trump tweeted about it but his message was in stark contrast to the message issued by Melania's spokeswoman. See below.
What do you think:
“I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” written on the back of Melania’s jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 21, 2018
Today’s visit w the children in Texas impacted @flotus greatly. If media would spend their time & energy on her actions & efforts to help kids - rather than speculate & focus on her wardrobe - we could get so much accomplished on behalf of children. #SheCares #ItsJustAJacket— Stephanie Grisham (@StephGrisham45) June 21, 2018
