Bluffton and Port Royal ranked among the 20 safest cities in South Carolina

The city of Isle of Palms has topped the list of 20 Safest Cities in South Carolina, this week. The website Safewise published the list with 20 cities that are the safest in South Carolina according to the latest FBI crime report.

The list was evaluated based on population and the number of violent crimes in the city.

Safewise said, "Isle of Palms, a town of just under 4,500, went all of 2016 without a single instance of reported violent crime."

But congratulations are in order for the towns of Bluffton and Port Royal who also made the list. Bluffton ranked at #5 and Port Royal at #17.

The evaluation is based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) in each city. If there was a tie, we also factored in the number of property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft). To level the playing field, we calculated the rate of crimes per 1,000 people in each city. This makes it easier to directly compare the likelihood of these crimes occurring in cities with vastly different populations.
