We have smart phones, smart TVs...how about smart roads?

At the end of the month a company called Integrated Roadways plans to add its “smart pavement” to an intersection in an industrial corner of Denver, Colorado. The company has encased assorted electronics within four slabs of concrete and will wedge those slabs into the road. The particular section of road where the smart pavement will be installed is along a dangerous curve. The pavement can determine the speed, weight, and direction of a vehicle using sensors buried in the pavement. The sensors will be able to detect when a driver goes off the road’s edge and alert authorities.
