NASA AWAITS SEVEN MINUTES OF TERROR

The robotic probe InSight is at the end of it 301-million-mile ride to Mars, and looming just ahead is the exit ramp — the Martian atmosphere. NASA calls today’s (Monday) landing “seven minutes of terror.” That’s approximately the time InSight takes to land, a spooky 70-mile descent from the top of the atmosphere down to the ground. Hundreds of things must go right during landing, all without NASA’s help. The flight computer on board has to do it on its own.… InSight lands Monday at 2:47 PM Eastern.
