World's smallest baby to survive--at 8.6 ounces, born at 23 weeks-is home!

At only 8.6 ounces (245 grams), the world’s smallest surviving baby ever born was delivered at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns in San Diego, California. Baby Saybie was delivered at 23 weeks and 3 days gestation after her mother experienced severe pregnancy complications. After a nearly five-month stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Sharp Mary Birch, she was discharged in May 2019 as a healthy, 5-pound infant.
