Renee Zelweger plays Judy Garland and does a duet with Sam Smith

Sam Smith will be featured on the Judy soundtrack!

He teamed up with star Renee Zellweger on the track “Get Happy,” one of Judy Garland’s most beloved and best known songs. Judy originally performed the song in the 1950 film Summer Stock.

Renee will be portraying Judy in the film, which is based on the five-week residency Judy performed in London just months before her death in June 1969.

“When I was 17 years old I did a project on Judy Garland for my Film Studies A-Level,” Sam says in a statement. “…She has remained as one of the icons of my life.”

The first single from the movie – “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” – sung by Zellweger will be released on Friday. Zellweger also sings “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” with Rufus Wainwright. The song is a Christmas classic Garland first introduced in 1944’s Meet Me in St. Louis.

The Judy soundtrack will be released on September 27th, the same day the film hits theaters.

Garland died at age 47 in 1969.
