Faith's Letter - Christmas Wish 2021

Dear Mark,

I would like to tell you and your listeners about a very special girl named Faith, an energetic 3yr old whose life changed dramatically this past March when she stopped eating and didn’t want to play. Mom knew something was terribly wrong and rushed her to the emergency room. After critical lab results, Faith was taken by ambulance and urgently admitted to intensive care at the Children’s Hospital braving multiple tests, procedures, and blood transfusions to save her life. Faith and her family would learn she had acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Mom was afraid that Faith would die.

Faith’s treatment to fight her leukemia began right away with many hospital and clinic visits to receive her chemotherapy. The medicine sometimes left her weak, fatigued and Faith lost her long, beautiful hair. Mom tells me this was very hard for both of them because mother and daughter liked spending time styling and brushing her hair.

Faith’s family has been her greatest support. Mom had to leave her job to take care of her daughter, leaving Step dad as the sole provider. The family is feeling the loss of income but it is a sacrifice they are willing to make. Faith and her mom make frequent trips to and from Savannah, which is costly since they live over 2 hours away. Mom is very worried about the holiday season. After a difficult year, she really wants it to be very special.

Faith is always in the kitchen helping and cooking with her family. For Christmas, Mom knows her daughter would love a Kitchen Playhouse. Faith spends time going to the park, coloring and painting and Faith gets very excited when they shop at Walmart and Belk’s. As for her parents, they express only gratitude and want nothing for themselves. However, I know gift cards could really make a difference for this family. Perhaps a night out or a self-care treat for mom and step dad would be wonderful. Gas cards would be welcomed for the multiple trips mom has to make for Faith’s care.

Despite the challenges Faith and her family face, they remain grateful for the help and support they have received. They want to wish everyone a happy holiday season. Mark, I would like to thank you and everyone for listening to Faith’s story. Any help for this family would be greatly appreciated.

With sincere gratitude,

Theresa Ryan Knapp RN
