Last week fire broke out at a home in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and by the time first responders arrived, flames were already pouring out from the first-floor windows. After hearing cries for help, Officers John Walsh and Dewitt Bacon, along with a neighbor, rushed to the side of the house where an eight-year-old boy was calling out from the second floor.
As smoke billowed from the room, the officers shouted, “Jump! I got you, bro. I got you.” The boy jumped, landing safely in Walsh’s arms, who quickly carried him away from danger. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Walsh said that “catching an eight-year-old wasn’t really on the agenda for the day,” but added how grateful he was that the boy trusted him enough to jump.
