When Mootilda the cow escaped from a slaughterhouse in San Tan Valley, Arizona, video footage of her running down the road quickly became a viral sensation and caught the attention of Aimee Takaha, founder of Aimee’s Farm Animal Sanctuary. Recognizing Mootilda’s determination to escape her fate at the slaughterhouse, Takaha decided she wanted to rescue the frightened animal.
To save Mootilda, she needed to raise $25-hundred within 24 hours to cover her costs. More than 60 donors stepped in, raising the funds in just 12 hours, allowing Takaha to call off the slaughter and arrange Mootilda’s safe transfer to the sanctuary. Donors say the video inspired them to contribute because they saw the cow’s strong will to live.
Now settled at Aimee’s Farm Animal Sanctuary, Mootilda is enjoying her life among the other rescued animals.
