The Colemans will never forget their fishing trip on the Alabama River. They have a tradition of hunting for fossils while on their trips. They’ve found sharks teeth, but this time what they saw was clearly wasn’t that…it was indeed something special. What they found was identified as a leatherback sea turtle fossil that is 32 million years old. The Colemans had a team of paleontologists excavate the fossil. The experts confirmed that not only did they discover a fossil that's really old but they also discovered a new species of leatherback sea turtles. It's now on display at a science center in Birmingham.
