Kyle, Texas officials will spend $932,800 to move a 400-year-old oak tree nicknamed "Jolene" to complete a road widening project. The Old Stagecoach Heritage Oak Tree measures 51 inches in diameter and sits within 6 inches of the road's pavement edge. Local protester Casey Landers said in January "The tree is older than the United States. We need to preserve it." One resident named Sam wrote "That tree has been a HISTORIC part of our town" in support of preservation efforts. The relocation is scheduled for this fall, with post-relocation care planned through 2027 to help ensure the tree's survival.
