A 17-year-old student from Southeastern Connecticut is giving away 1,000 free hot dogs to local children and families who’ve lost access to SNAP benefits during the government shutdown. Jake Prokopets runs a hot dog stand called Jake’s Dogs and he’s stocked up on supplies so he can offer meals at no cost. His stand, located near Williams Park in New London, has become a gathering spot where community members are stopping by to get some help and show support. He plans to continue the free hot dog giveaway this weekend at the same location.
