When a hummingbird got stuck near the skylight inside their Oxnard, California, condo, Corrine Draper and her husband, Doug, came up with a creative rescue plan. She grabbed a long pole and attached a flower to it, hoping to lure the tiny bird to safety. Their first attempt with a yellow hibiscus didn’t work, but when she switched to the last coleus flower spike, one she’d seen other hummingbirds favor over the summer, the bird followed it straight out their open sliding-glass door.
