City Offers Food Donations To Reduce Municipal Fines, Library Fees

Chickasha, Oklahoma is allowing residents to donate food items instead of paying certain municipal court fines and library penalties. The municipal court program runs through November 26th, offering $10 fine reductions per non-perishable food item donated, with a maximum $100 discount. People with outstanding warrants can participate "without fear of arrest," according to city officials. Last year, 30 participants contributed food worth $2,826.50 in fine credits. The public library's December program accepts any amount of food to clear overdue book fines, though it excludes fees for lost or damaged materials. All donated food goes to the Chickasha Emergency Food Pantry.
