Last Thursday, fourth graders from Jackson Elementary in Green Bay visited Colburn Park to distribute 61 handmade knit scarves donated by community member Linda Saugstad for people in need as winter approaches. Students tied the scarves to trees, each labeled with a note inviting anyone who is cold to take one. The activity served double-duty as both a charitable effort and a social studies lesson about the challenges some community members face. The school says this is the second year of the project, and Saugstad is already planning to make more scarves for next year.
