A heartwarming story out of Campton, New Hampshire, where an entire elementary school has rallied around a deaf first‑grader who’d been feeling isolated. Seven‑year‑old Ben O’Reilly is the only deaf student in the district, and his aide says he struggled at first to connect with classmates.
That changed when a few kids started learning basic sign language just so they could talk and play with him. Soon, the whole class joined in—then teachers across multiple grades—and before long, sign language was spreading throughout the school.
Ben’s moms say the support has been overwhelming, and his aide says it’s incredible watching his world open up through communication. As more people signed with him, Ben began to understand just how powerful that connection can be.
