Derenne Middle School Art teacher Daniel Bonnell got a big surprise in his mailbox this morning…a letter from former President Barack Obama written just a week before he left office. Bonnell had written President Obama a letter a year ago and included an image of a civil rights collage that bears his image, which hangs in the Derenne Middle School media center.
In the letter, Bonnell told the President of the struggles that many inner city middle school students face each day and asked if the President could write a word of encouragement to the students of DeRenne.
The attached letter, written on January 13th, arrived in his mailbox this morning. In it, President Obama encouraged the students to remember the founding promise of our Nation when they are struggling – “that we as Americans believe all things are possible for all people.”
