Motivating students to do well is a challenge many teachers face, but one high school teacher recently found a foolproof way to make sure his class did its best. Joshua Murray, a teacher in Arizona (Avondale), wanted to do something to make sure his students went to college, even though he knew many of them didn’t consider it an option. So he made them a very, very unique deal. Murray promised his students that for every student who received at least $5,000 in scholarships, he would get their name tattooed on his body.
Considering most teachers dangle pizza parties and field trips, Murray’s proposal definitely falls into the category of “going above and beyond”. And enthusiasm is paying off: Murray now has the giant tattoo with 28 names on his side for students who received a combined $700,000 in scholarships.
