I travel this road twice a day. I have asked the Department of Transportation and my elected officials to look into widening 17--or at least repaving it, since the road is in HORRIBLE disrepair. Nothing ever happens and I'm told there's no money for it.
Now that the number of fatalities has increased the state is finally going to do something about it. That's what it takes, eh?
Paving of 17 will happen in the near future. Widening project begins in a year and building a second span over the Back River will start in about 3-4 years. The state now says they have the money.
Senator Tom Davis says this system is broken because there aren't enough influential people in our area to have made this happen sooner. He's on it now.
