A Wisconsin preschool teacher will always be part of her student's life, thanks to a transplant surgery. Beth Battista decided to become a living donor after hearing about five-year-old Lyla Carreyn's year-long battle against a rare autoimmune disorder. Despite her family's nationwide search, there were no compatible donors until Battista decided to be tested as a possible match and turned out to be. After a successful surgery, Carreyn is still recovering at the hospital a week after the transplant, but Battista was able to return home two days later.
