In a heartbreaking 13-minute monologue Monday night, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel shared the news that his newborn son required open-heart surgery.
Clips of the monologue went viral, with many noting not just the emotional tenor of his speech, but also the political implications of what he was saying.
- William “Billy” Kimmel was born April 21st and three hours later, they found out he required surgery to fix a hole in his heart wall.
- Tuesday morning, Kimmel’s wife Molly McNearney tweeted a photo of her husband smiling down at Billy, who seems to be grinning right back. She wrote: “I am thankful to love and be loved by these two brave guys. Both criers.”
- She’s not the only one tweeting about his monologue. Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama thanked him for bringing attention to the healthcare debate.
- This past weekend Kimmel and his wife were able to bring Billy home to his big sister, Jane.

Well said, Jimmy. That's exactly why we fought so hard for the ACA, and why we need to protect it for kids like Billy. And congratulations! https://t.co/77F8rZrD3P— Barack Obama (@BarackObama) May 2, 2017
